Fashion Revolution Week: Why It Matters To You and to Us

Each year, Fashion Revolution Week invites us all to pause and ask a powerful question: Who made my clothes? - What would you answer?

What Is Fashion Revolution Week?

Born in response to the devastating Rana Plaza factory collapse in 2013, Fashion Revolution is now a global movement demanding a more transparent, fair, and sustainable fashion industry. Each year, Fashion Revolution Week brings together the world’s largest fashion activism movement for a week of collective action — a time to reflect, raise our voices, and demand a better future for the fashion industry.

It’s a global reminder that we all have a role to play — as individuals, businesses, and communities — in shaping a more ethical, transparent, and sustainable system. Because real change happens when we come together.

At Leina + Fleur, this message speaks directly to who we are — and why we do what we do.

What Fashion Revolution Means To Us

We’re a small, independent Australian business committed to creating fashion differently.

That means:

  • Designing and manufacturing locally
  • Producing in limited batch quantities to minimise waste
  • Creating garments that are made to last - with care, consideration and purpose.

But choosing to keep our production here in Australia hasn’t come without its challenges.

The Realities of Local Clothing Manufacturing

While we have been the grateful recipients of government funding towards the cost of a waste-reducing fabric cutting machine - a huge step forward in modernising our operations - it was when researching available grants we quickly discovered something disheartening.

Most funding opportunities are geared toward medium-sized businesses that manufacture for export. As a small brand committed to serving the local market, the support available to us was limited at best.

At the same time, we’ve seen a growing gap in the skilled workforce needed to support ethical, Australian-made fashion. Sewing, patternmaking, and garment construction are critical skills that are slowly disappearing — and without investment in training and education, the future of local manufacturing is at risk.

What You Can Do

We know our community cares deeply about where and how their clothes are made. That’s why this Fashion Revolution Week, we’re inviting you to go one step further:

Use your voice. Write to your local MP.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

Change doesn’t happen overnight. But it does happen when people — brands, customers, makers, and leaders — come together and demand something better.

Your choices matter. And in the current global climate, they matter more than ever.

As US tariffs increase, Australia is expected to see an influx of offshore-made products. The pressure on local brands will only grow.

That’s why we’re asking you to continue being mindful with your purchases, and to remember that every time you choose to support an Australian business, you’re helping to preserve local jobs, skills, and stories that are worth holding onto.

Thank you for standing with us this Fashion Revolution Week; for caring about who made your clothes, and for being part of a community that believes in fashion with heart, purpose, and integrity.

Let’s keep asking questions, keep lifting the curtain, and keep fighting for a future that supports people and planet first.
