Leina + Fleur Stand Behind Life-Changing Breakthrough for Spinal Cord Injury Research
At Leina + Fleur, giving back has always been woven into the fabric of who we are — and sometimes, the causes we support become deeply personal. This is one of those moments.
We’re proud to stand with Perry Cross and the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation (PCSRF) as they announce a history-making milestone: the official launch of Griffith University’s world-first human clinical trial for a groundbreaking cell transplantation therapy.
This therapy has the potential to restore motor, sensory, and autonomic function in people living with spinal cord injuries — a development that could change lives forever.
A Moment Decades in the Making
For Perry Cross, this is more than research; it’s the realisation of a lifelong mission. After sustaining a spinal cord injury at just 19, Perry’s journey has been marked by relentless determination, tireless advocacy, and an unshakable belief that a cure is possible.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the PCSRF family — the belief, encouragement, and contributions that have kept this vision alive,” Perry shared.
Now, after years of unwavering work, the approvals have been granted, and recruitment for the trial is officially open.
About the Trial
The study will test a novel therapeutic approach designed to improve quality of life for people with chronic spinal cord injuries. It involves:
Cell Collection – Nasal cell biopsies at Gold Coast University Hospital or Griffith University (Gold Coast)
Transplantation Surgery – Performed at Gold Coast University Hospital
Intensive Rehabilitation – Delivered by partner rehabilitation centres in the Gold Coast, Sydney, or Melbourne, both before and after surgery
All procedures, surgery, rehabilitation, and assessments are provided at no cost to participants, who will also be reimbursed for allowable travel and time.
The trial is seeking adults (18+) with chronic acquired spinal cord injury living in, or able to relocate to, southeast Queensland, northern NSW, greater Sydney, or greater Melbourne.
Why This Matters to Us
For Fleur, this is more than philanthropy — it’s personal. Supporting Perry’s work means supporting hope, resilience, and the belief that no challenge is insurmountable. It’s a reminder that the courage to keep going can lead to life-changing breakthroughs.
We’re proud to be part of the PCSRF family and to stand beside Perry as this next chapter begins.
