For some time now, we were aware of Supermodel Paula’s career in politics and her important work for Cystic Fibrosis charity.
We were over the moon with excitement when she has agreed to take part in our recent Supermodel campaign. Oozing with confidence and great sense of humour, Supermodel Paula has brought a new dimension to the set. Today, we are proud to share results of our latest photo shoot and are also trying to find out a bit more about the woman behind an impressive resume and Supermodel looks.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a passionate Tasmanian and have lived in this gorgeous island state all my life. I have two gorgeous children (17 and 18 1/2) and two cats that shed their long hair on all my LB clothes. I have had a varied career starting out as a legal secretary, working as a political adviser and then entering politics myself at the age of just 27.
Two years later I became the youngest female Minister ever in Tasmania - I have to admit a daunting prospect at just 29. I left politics in early 2009 after a bout of severe depression and since then have advocated for more open conversations about mental health. I then spent some time caring for my elderly parents before taking on the role of Executive Officer of Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania.
What motivated you to get involved in the Cystic Fibrosis charity?
After leaving politics I wanted to work in the Not For Profit sector and was fortunate that CFT were looking for their first staff member. It’s been a really rewarding role, although at times it is heartbreaking. Despite advances in research and improved treatments, the average life expectancy is just 37 years of age. There is no cure at the moment but one day we hope the letters CF will stand for Cure Found. Not many people know about CF but if you are considering starting a family it is important that you have a test to ensure you don’t carry the gene. More information is available at Cystic Fibrosis charity website.
Can you describe your work style?
I love to be comfortable at work as I can have a varied work day, especially if we are running an event. LB dresses are so versatile that I can still be comfortable but look professional. And thanks to the lovely ladies in the LB community I have discovered Bared and Frankie4 shoes, Ruby Olive necklaces and other.
What advice would you give to your 40-year-old self?
What are you most passionate about right now?
I am on my local Council and we have elections at the moment which leaves little time for my many passions right now. But when I do have time I am passionate about one of my many hobbies, writing cookbook reviews. As an avid cook I was so excited to be given this opportunity. It combines my love of writing, cooking and reading and my family benefit from the recipes I test, which they are enjoying (and they are tough critics). I was pretty excited that a recent review I submitted was sent to a UK publisher who loved it. I couldn’t have been more chuffed!
