The beauty about style, is we all have one. Developing your own style is part of a personal journey and one that continues to grow and evolve. This journey generally encompasses multiple factors including environment, friends, work and overall lifestyle however your body proportions will be a factor in what inevitably resonates with you.
Whatever your style, there is no absolute right or wrong. Embrace what makes you feel confident and continue to evolve your own style with your own life choices. Style is you doing you.
Today we caught up with Summer to speak about her own style journey. At 157cm, she may be a pocket rocket in stature however her style and personality is one of a giant!
Tell us a little about yourself - this may include your family, your back story or anything that you are passionate about…
I was born in 1977 when disco was at it’s’ peak and the King (Elvis Presley) left the building for the very last time. Both of these universal truths imprinted on my very fresh baby fashion brain.I still love disco and the King, both the music and the fashion. Let's just say that before L&F lots of my clothes were very shiny and highly flammable! When I left school I got accepted into the University of Sydney to study Archaeology but quickly released I really just liked the outfit that went with the job, the Safari suit, so left and got a job in a florist so I could play with pretty looking and smelling things all day.
What would you call/name your fashion style and why
I would call my fashion style everyday fancy dress. I love getting dressed and having a little theme going on, even if I am the only one who knows what it is. I have no doubt this comes from my passion for musicals, especially the costumes, that always speak volumes.
Who inspires you in fashion, celebrities, individuals, influentials
My Mum and Dad have both influenced my fashion sense. My Mum wore a red wedding dress and had one single yellow rose as her bouquet. Growing up she was always a vision of colour and individuality. My Dad wore sarongs around the house and elaborate scarves when he left the house. Flamboyance is in my DNA. I am inspired by eras and cultures more than individuals. Mostly the 50s and 60’s and the vibrant colours in Africa, South American and Central American dress.
Your outlook on developing your style
I can’t wait to see what I will be wearing and how I will be wearing it, even a year from now. However, I do know that one of the best accessories will be my new to me, gorgeous grey.
I am letting it develop. Whenever someone asks me about style, which in my role at L&F is everyday, I can’t help but think of the 89 year old fashion icon Iris Apfel, who once said. “You can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There's no how-to road map to style. It's about self-expression and, above all, attitude.”
Petite highs and lows
I'm not short, everyone else is just tall. Like my Dad says, “Things Stop growing when they are perfect.” When it comes to height festivals and cupboards are my only bugbears. I have never seen my height as a challenge or curse when it comes to fashion. I've never met an L&F frock I could not rock. If a dress or pants are too long I just take them up and BAM I got my self a matching head scarf. And that’s fashion baby!
This is a very pretty print, although I think on me, a dark background (eg black or navy) would be more flattering. Love the fit and flare style. I found the sizing to be on the generous side and probably should have sized down. I think this dress looks best worn with a belt.
Love the straight line to this dress and pepper print is stunning, in a subtle way.
Absolutely love this print and style, wore it on Mother’s Day and felt really nice in it ,highly recommend this dress
I knew this was going to be perfect as soon as I saw it on the website. The colour, the drape, the fabric - just so beautifully feminine and elegant.
Fabric is fantastic, fits true to size too, a bit tricky for me as I am just under 152cm! 3/4 sleeves as well makes this top so easy to wear.
Thanks L&F 😊
For some time now I’ve been looking to refresh my wardrobe with a new classic “Little Black Dress”. I’m so pleased with the Ciara in black! It is such an elegant and timeless style – and a bonus also that it is reversible – so really two dresses in one. It will be easy to style this for evening or daytime wear depending on choice of jewellery and accessories. The non-crush fabric will also make this great for travel. Thanks so much Leina & Fleur!
I have been grabbing my Hydrangea Paeton constantly since it arrived. This top is so comfy and versatile. However I recommend going down a size as I have found it is large across the shoulders and long in the sleeves.
Paeton hydrangea is a gorgeous print and feels very luxurious. My 4th top : I’ll be getting more !
It is the perfect belt for dresses, comfortably cinching the waist, due to elastic section, but looks luxe and leather at the front. Love it!
So nice to add a little colour during the colder months. I tend to wear black pants or black skirt with boots to work every day and love that I can mix it up with one of my beautiful l&f blouses.
Love, love Monroe. It took me a while to purchase these pants. I had purchased Culottes and loved them. But I’m a shortie. However, my first pair! Yes, I’ve had to shorten, but amazing. So comfortable and easy to wear! Pair well with all my L&F tops, no effort to look good any day. Well made, easy care, no iron, easy travel. I need black ones when back in stock!
My goodness. This beautiful blouse and it’s design and floral pattern has changed what I thought I knew about ‘my style’. I love the colours and beautiful floral pattern, so different to what I thought would suit me. Leina and Fleur have revolutionised my wardrobe! The easy wear, superb quality of this lovely top just lifted me. Congratulations, you’ve changed my life, I feel uplifted knowing I can look good for any event.
I’m a fan of Paeton and it’s relaxed fit and full sleaves. And I couldn’t go past the Hydrangea print and it’s colours. Loving it with navy and denim. Certainly a “go to “ top in my wardrobe.
My first purchase the Xanthe navy dress. Bought size down as my size was not available it fit wonderfully thanks to the stretch. Very happy.
I have officially found my favourite pants. I always struggle with pants as I have been blessed with large thighs. These pants are not tight on my thighs and feel and look amazing on. The thicker fabric gives for a corporate look. This is a very flattering style. I’ll definitely be getting a second pair.
