The beauty about style, is we all have one. Developing your own style is part of a personal journey and one that continues to grow and evolve. This journey generally encompasses multiple factors including environment, friends, work and overall lifestyle however your body proportions will be a factor in what inevitably resonates with you.
Whatever your style, there is no absolute right or wrong. Embrace what makes you feel confident and continue to evolve your own style with your own life choices. Style is you doing you.
Today we caught up with Summer to speak about her own style journey. At 157cm, she may be a pocket rocket in stature however her style and personality is one of a giant!
Tell us a little about yourself - this may include your family, your back story or anything that you are passionate about…
I was born in 1977 when disco was at it’s’ peak and the King (Elvis Presley) left the building for the very last time. Both of these universal truths imprinted on my very fresh baby fashion brain.I still love disco and the King, both the music and the fashion. Let's just say that before L&F lots of my clothes were very shiny and highly flammable! When I left school I got accepted into the University of Sydney to study Archaeology but quickly released I really just liked the outfit that went with the job, the Safari suit, so left and got a job in a florist so I could play with pretty looking and smelling things all day.
What would you call/name your fashion style and why
I would call my fashion style everyday fancy dress. I love getting dressed and having a little theme going on, even if I am the only one who knows what it is. I have no doubt this comes from my passion for musicals, especially the costumes, that always speak volumes.
Who inspires you in fashion, celebrities, individuals, influentials
My Mum and Dad have both influenced my fashion sense. My Mum wore a red wedding dress and had one single yellow rose as her bouquet. Growing up she was always a vision of colour and individuality. My Dad wore sarongs around the house and elaborate scarves when he left the house. Flamboyance is in my DNA. I am inspired by eras and cultures more than individuals. Mostly the 50s and 60’s and the vibrant colours in Africa, South American and Central American dress.
Your outlook on developing your style
I can’t wait to see what I will be wearing and how I will be wearing it, even a year from now. However, I do know that one of the best accessories will be my new to me, gorgeous grey.
I am letting it develop. Whenever someone asks me about style, which in my role at L&F is everyday, I can’t help but think of the 89 year old fashion icon Iris Apfel, who once said. “You can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There's no how-to road map to style. It's about self-expression and, above all, attitude.”
Petite highs and lows
I'm not short, everyone else is just tall. Like my Dad says, “Things Stop growing when they are perfect.” When it comes to height festivals and cupboards are my only bugbears. I have never seen my height as a challenge or curse when it comes to fashion. I've never met an L&F frock I could not rock. If a dress or pants are too long I just take them up and BAM I got my self a matching head scarf. And that’s fashion baby!
Love the style and print of this top. Can see it getting a solid workout as great for work and home. Particularly love the ties on this top; adds an extra flourish.
Love the style of this top; great for a bigger bust (12DD) and the Chameleon print is a bit of fun. Have found it works for the office and home, so is getting a workout. Thanks LF team.
So love this top! So comfortable. Fabric versatile for many seasons. Looks smart - pattern not too busy for working on line (most of my work). Goes with black or navy bottoms. I am 165cm, size 10 top and 12 bottoms but went for a size 8 (am losing weight intentionally). Usually do a size 10 (especially in white) but for this top - size 8 is an elegant snug fit.
I so love my Melissa dress in Kyoga! I had been holding off as I wasn't sure if the neckline would be too high or if the length would work for me - or the colour (I am a cool colour chick). I am 165cm, size 10 top and size 12 bottom, fair complexion and light brown/blonde hair. The dress is perfect! Neckline is a tad wider and deeper than a round neck - and flattering on me. Colours are great. Tres elegante! Grateful as I know the style is timeless!
I love this print and the Jamie is a classic, so love the combination of both. Fabric lovely and light and will go with so many other pieces. Great addition to the LF wardrobe.
I love the Presley pants (have them in the droplet) and had to get them in this beautiful print. Love the feel of the fabric and the way the pants fall. So flattering and fine for my 160cm 'height'.
I love these pants I bought on sale. Great fit; very comfortable; elegant. A great wardrobe staple for me.
I have this scarf in Jade and Rose and it is a fantastic winter staple. So soft and warm and a nice addition to any outfit. Highly recommended.
I just loved the print and style of this dress, so hoped it would work for me (at 160cm I was not sure). I am pleased to say it is a great fit and not too long. Particularly love the pretty ruffle detail. Love this print so much I just had to get the Presley Pant (love) and Jamie top (classic winner). Thanks again LB.
Received this dress in lockdown can't wait to wear it out - I tried it with black and tan boots and the colour (Mulberry) of the dress looks great with both options so I think I will be getting lots of wear very soon out of it. Fits well across the curves, easy to adjust to suit. Think I need the other colours...
MELISSA DRESS IN DESERT FLOWER is my second Melissa dress and I LOVE it. No matter my mood, I slip this dress on and voila I am a new person. Easy, comfortable, good length (I'm 5'8") with a pair of boots I'm ready to go. Love, love, love it.
This is my third Courtney skirt and I love all three! This skirt is so versatile with ease, comfort of style and length that is easily adjusted depending on where you wear the skirt (waist or hips). Courtney in Corsage is particularly stunning for the deep red tones and bluey grey shades. Versatile and comfortable, it is a must have in any wardrobe.
I recently bought Diaz pants in black. Wow! A fabulous fit and a classic cut. These will be my new go to dress pants. Thanks Leina and Fleur.
Eli is just like everything L & F … a high quality item that looks and feels great! A game changer for me, the Eli belt is sized according to my waist measurement, and so unlike my other belts, it fits perfectly with no long extra overhang beyond the buckle, so not excessive quantity! I also love the ‘stretch’ section built in to accomodate fluctuations in tummy size which can happen even in one day! Basically the most comfortable belt ever!!
Jaimie is one of my favourite styles. Especially in this print. Vibrant colours that go with so many of my L&F separates. Love it with my dark teal.
